Gabriel Finley & the raven's riddle (Aug 2014)
Citation: Hagen,
George. Gabriel Finley & the raven's riddle,
New York: Schwartz & Wade Books, 2014.
Annotation:
The booklist declares that this book is a first-rate fantasy
for middle-grade readers. The main character, Gabriel, is an eleven years old
boy. Gabriel lived with his aunt and his father disappeared several years
earlier and his mother has been gone since he was a baby. The thing he enjoys
most is solving riddles and this skill will be essential when it comes to
finding his father. Gabriel must use all his wits to secure two magical objects
from a dark lord, his evil uncle Corax, who is part human, part raven. This
story involved into a large cast of characters and George narrated it in a
humorous tone. Middle-graders looking for a soaring fantasy that’s not too
hard, not too easy, will find this just right.
